Mónica Pérez is a Venezuelan artist and graphic designer who one day went to Costa Rica on a surfing trip, never left and has been living there for the past 20 years.
Her painting is fast, intuitive, sometimes violent, but at the same time with a sort of calculated spontaneity which is very intriguing. Her pieces reflect her enthusiasm for life as she renews herself in each of her series, visiting different subjects and always using lots of colors in layers full of contrast or subtle harmonies.
A wide array of emotions are generated for the observer when they are confronted by the uncertainty of her abstract landscapes: the broken, ripped and sown together canvas.
The emotion might be collective, but the answer is always personal.
